Winterisation: what actually needs doing each year
Fogging the cylinders is the easy part. Here's the full annual checklist we run before a boat goes into storage.
A proper winterisation is gearcase oil change (checking for water contamination), fogging oil through the cylinders, fuel stabiliser, and a fresh-water flush.
We also pull the prop every year — it's the cheapest time to check the prop shaft seal, and a lot of gearcase leaks get caught here before they become an expensive repair in spring.
Book early: October fills up fast, and a rushed job the week before haul-out isn't the same as one done properly in September.
