Used vs refurbished: what's the real difference
Both are pre-owned. Only one has been through our workshop first. Here's what that buys you.
Used means inspected and confirmed running — we check compression, look for corrosion, and verify the hours, but the engine is sold broadly as it came to us.
Refurbished means it's been fully through the workshop: gearcase reseal, new water pump kit, and a sea trial before it goes back on the floor, with the same workmanship warranty as a rig we've done from new.
The price gap is usually smaller than people expect — often worth paying for on anything you're planning to keep for a few seasons.
